The Assembly of French Polynesia
Located in the heart of Papeete, the assembly of French Polynesia is the beating heart of Polynesian democracy. A major institution of our autonomy, it is the seat of the country's legislative power.
Its fundamental Role
Composed of 57 representatives elected by direct universal suffrage for five-year terms, the Assembly's main missions are to:
Vote on the laws of the country : It adopts the texts that govern daily life, the economy, health, and education in Polynesia.
Adopt the budget : It oversees public finances and approves government spending.
Oversee the government's actions : It ensures the proper management of public affairs by the ministers.
A place of history and exchange
Beyond its political role, the Assembly is a place steeped in history, built on the site of the former residence of Queen Pomare IV. It embodies the strong link between Polynesian traditions and modern institutions.
It is open to the public, demonstrating its commitment to being a people's house, transparent and accessible to all citizens.
